Becoming a Patient

When it comes to your health, you deserve the best. Horder Healthcare is nationally recognised for its outstanding level of surgical expertise, patient satisfaction and hospital environment.

We are a specialist and independent healthcare provider with a highly therapeutic approach to patient experience and more than 60 years’ expertise in patient care and recovery within the orthopaedic and musculoskeletal field.

We provide:

  • Surgery for patients aged 18 years and over
  • Non-interventional physiotherapy for patients aged 16 years and over
  • X-ray diagnostic services to patients aged 18 years and over

If you would like to have your treatment at The Horder Centre in East Sussex, whether through the NHS or as a private patient this is an option available to all, with three alternative ways to access our services.

You can even access both private healthcare and the NHS for your treatment, for example paying for a diagnostic test but having any further care you need through the NHS, and vice versa. Your information would be shared by the NHS and ourselves to ensure safe, joined-up and co-ordinated patient care.

As an NHS patient you can ask your GP to be referred directly to The Horder Centre for your diagnosis, treatment and care. Your GP will be able to assess your needs and then provide you with an appropriate referral

Once you have chosen The Horder Centre as the provider of your treatment, your GP will send a referral to us via the NHS e-referral service (previously known as Choose & Book). Depending on your location, your referral may be sent to the MSK service for triage first. Your GP may also give you a booking code, which will allow you to book your appointment online at a later stage.

Every aspect of your treatment will be covered by the NHS. You will, however, need to pay for personal items such as newspapers, meals for your visitors or telephone calls at the end of your stay.

If you would like faster access to Horder Healthcare's services and to secure your treatment avoiding a wait list then you have the option to self-pay.

If you are in a position to self-pay you can ask your GP to refer you to Horder Healthcare, informing them that you will be paying for the procedure or service yourself.

Your GP can then write an ‘open referral letter’ which will advise on the treatment you require. You can request a specific consultant if you wish or your GP may suggest a particular consultant, in which case this will be a ‘direct referral letter’. You will then be contacted by Horder Healthcare to arrange an appointment, or if you prefer you can contact us directly at a time that suits you.

Physiotherapy appointments are available to book without GP referral. Request an appointment here.

Finance options available

To make private healthcare on a self-pay basis more accessible, we have introduced a finance option to spread the cost of your treatment over a period of time.

Self-paying patients at Horder Healthcare are now able to take out loans that cover all fees, including the consultant, anaesthetist and hospital fees. The loan products include interest-free options, with repayment periods of 6, 10 or 12 months, and interest-bearing loans repayable over 24, 36, 48 and 60 months, currently with an APR of 12.9%. Subject to approval.

If you have private medical insurance and want to choose Horder Healthcare for your treatment, you can ask your GP to refer you if appropriate, explaining that you will be going through your private health insurer. You will need to confirm with your insurance provider that you have the appropriate cover for the treatment you require at each stage of treatment including the initial outpatient appointment.

The insurance provider will provide you with an authorisation number for treatment, which we will need before any treatment can take place.

Please call us on 01892 620934 for further information.
