At Horder Healthcare we understand that waiting for surgery or treatment can be an anxious time for you and your family.

Our self-pay surgical procedures and services provide a fast track option without the need for medical insurance, enabling you to get on your feet and back to normal as soon as possible. With a highly therapeutic approach to patient experience, Horder Healthcare is expert at delivering patient care and rehabilitation services within the orthopaedic and musculoskeletal fields.

Becoming a private patient

As a private patient, you won't have to wait for our outstanding care.

Following an initial consultation and pre-op diagnostics you will get a tailored, guaranteed price for treatment based on your condition.

Arranging a consultation

A GP referral is not essential if you are seeking private treatment as a self-pay patient. However, it can be helpful to ask your GP to refer you to Horder Healthcare, informing them that you will be paying for the procedure or service yourself. Your GP can then write an ‘open referral letter’ which will advise on the treatment you require. You can request a specific consultant if you wish or your GP may suggest a particular consultant, in which case this will be a ‘direct referral letter’. You will then be contacted by Horder Healthcare to arrange an appointment, or you can contact us directly at a time that suits you.

Please note that we have restrictions based on Body Mass Index (BMI). We cannot perform certain procedures for individuals with a BMI of 40 or higher. You can use the BMI calculator to find out your BMI. If you have questions or concerns about this requirement, please contact us.

Finance options available

To make private healthcare more accessible, we have introduced a finance option to spread the cost of your treatment over a period of time.

Self-paying patients at Horder Healthcare are now able to take out loans that cover all fees, including the consultant, anaesthetist and hospital fees. The loan products include interest-free options, with repayment periods of 6, 10 or 12 months, and interest-bearing loans repayable over 24, 36, 48 and 60 months, currently with an APR of 12.9%. Subject to approval.

Private Healthcare FAQs

What is private healthcare

Private healthcare is available for anyone who chooses to pay for their treatment or who has healthcare insurance to cover the cost. You can usually get treatment faster than in the NHS and you may be able to see doctors or have treatments that are not available via the NHS. Private healthcare is provided by either an independent hospital or clinic, which is not part of the NHS.

How can I access private healthcare?

Most patients can get treatment from an independent hospital or clinic following a referral from their GP. Independent hospitals or clinics will see patients without a referral, but they may still need to consult a patient’s GP before providing treatment. You may not need a GP referral if you want to pay for a scan, diagnostic test or physiotherapy.

Can I mix and match NHS and private healthcare?

Yes, you can access both private healthcare and the NHS. For example, if you pay for a diagnostic test, you can still receive any further care you need through the NHS, and vice versa. Medical professionals in both the NHS and private healthcare sector should securely share information on your treatment to ensure safe, joined-up and co-ordinated patient care.

How do I choose a healthcare provider?

When paying for treatment, you can choose both your healthcare provider and doctor. Your GP may be able to make some recommendations.

You can also look at the Private Healthcare Information Network (PHIN) which provides information on all the different independent hospitals and consultants across the country.

» See The Horder Centre profile

The Care Quality Commission in England (CQC) inspects independent healthcare providers, just as it does NHS hospitals and clinics.

How do I pay for private healthcare

There are two ways to pay for private healthcare.

  1. You can “self-pay” (or “pay as you go”) where you can either pay the total cost before receiving treatment or spread the cost of treatment over a number of months or years through payment schemes offered by many providers.
  2. You can also use health insurance (also known as private medical insurance or PMI), which pays some or all your medical bills. Many people have health insurance through their employer, so always check with them first to see if you are covered. Health insurance policies vary significantly, so always check the terms and conditions of your policy to understand what yours covers.
How much does private healthcare cost?

Prices for private healthcare differ depending on where you live and which provider you use. Most independent providers offer fixed price packages that cover all the costs relating to your care including doctors’ fees and nursing, accommodation, and food costs.
