International Nurses Day 2026 at The Horder Centre

This International Nurses Day, we are proud to celebrate the incredible nursing teams who make a difference to our patients every single day.

To mark the occasion, we spent time with our Day Surgery Unit nurses to capture a behind-the-scenes look at the vital role they play in every patient journey. From welcoming patients on arrival and helping them feel calm and reassured, to carrying out essential safety checks and preparing them for theatre, their care and expertise are at the heart of everything we do.

The video also highlights what our nurses love most about their role, the supportive team around them, the variety each day brings, and the opportunity to truly get to know patients and make a positive difference during an important moment in their lives.

At The Horder Centre, we know that exceptional care starts with exceptional people. Today, and every day, we thank our nurses for their compassion, professionalism, and dedication to patient care.

We're here to ensure the safety of the patients really, and also to make sure they're relaxed and comfortable when they arrive. When they first arrive, our job is to ensure that they are admitted safely. Basically we are going through a sort of safety checklist, to make sure that everything's ready for their procedure. So we have to go through, the checklist of what their allergies are, and get them prepared for theatre. We also make sure they've signed their consent form, and do any necessary checks. So if we're required to take any further bloods, have a pre operative x-ray, blood sugar, we check obviously blood pressure, and we also log all the medications and make sure they've been taken as instructed, ultimately making sure the patient is happy to go ahead. Here at the hoarder I really love the team. We all work really well together. Everybody's so lovely and friendly here and also it's the variety. Every day is different so I never know who I'm going to meet. The patients are in a situation where they're feeling a little bit vulnerable, a little bit nervous quite often about having surgery understandably. I like to just reassure them that it's going to be okay. I love working with people, getting to know them, reassuring them, and also being able to make a difference. You know, some people come in, very worried. They don't really know much about what's going to happen, making sure that they feel comfortable, ready for their journey ahead.
