This World Physiotherapy Day, we’re celebrating the dedicated physiotherapy teams(opens in new tab) who play a vital role in our patients’ journeys at The Horder Centre.
As a specialist orthopaedic hospital, physiotherapy is an important part of the care we provide. From helping patients take their first steps following joint replacement surgery to supporting people with ongoing musculoskeletal conditions, our physiotherapists help patients build strength, improve mobility and regain confidence.
Supporting recovery after surgery
Our inpatient physiotherapists work closely with patients following orthopaedic surgery, tailoring rehabilitation to their individual needs and progress. This can include bed and seated exercises, standing exercises, practising stairs, and gradually progressing from a Zimmer frame to crutches or walking sticks.
They also play an important role in preparing patients to return home, helping them understand their exercises and feel confident about continuing their recovery independently.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the role is seeing patients progress throughout their stay, from arriving at The Horder Centre with difficulty walking to leaving feeling more confident about their new joint and their ability to get back to doing the things they enjoy.
Continuing rehabilitation beyond hospital
Our outpatient physiotherapists support patients at different stages of their recovery, as well as those experiencing a wide variety of aches, pains and musculoskeletal conditions.
No two patients are the same. An outpatient physiotherapist might help an 18-year-old manage lower back pain one day and support an 80-year-old living with osteoarthritis the next. Through tailored exercise programmes, advice and physiotherapy classes, the team helps patients develop the knowledge and confidence to take an active role in their own rehabilitation.
We provide outstanding patient experiences
