Arthrosamid® is an innovative treatment designed for individuals suffering from knee osteoarthritis (OA).
It provides long-lasting relief in knee OA pain and discomfort even four years post-treatment[1], enabling patients to enjoy an improved quality of life without the need for surgery.
What is Arthrosamid®?
Arthrosamid® is a hydrogel-based injectable treatment. Once administered into the knee joint, it acts as a cushion, reducing friction and inflammation. The hydrogel integrates with the joint tissues, providing consistent pain relief and improving joint functionality over time.
Who is an ideal candidate?
Arthrosamid® is ideal for individuals with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis who have not found sufficient relief from other treatments.
A consultation with a specialist will determine if Arthrosamid® is the right choice.
What are the key benefits?
- Non-surgical: Eliminates the need for invasive surgical procedures.
- Long-lasting relief: Provides sustained relief from knee osteoarthritis.
- Quick recovery: Allows patients to return to their normal activities shortly after treatment.
- Minimally invasive: Administered through a single injection under local anaesthesia.

Osteoarthritis in the knee
Knee osteoarthritis is a condition where the protective cartilage in the knee joint wears down over time. This causes pain, stiffness, swelling, and difficulty moving the joint. It's a common form of arthritis, especially in older adults, due to aging, overuse, or injury.
What is the response rate of Arthrosamid®?
Patients in the under 70 years group reported close to 80% positive response rate following treatment with Arthrosamid®
* WOMAC or The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index is a measure of symptoms and physical disability LSMeans are modelled/estimated means. The estimated means are using data from the other visits and also the covariates.
What is the treatment process?
Local anaesthesia is applied to the knee to minimise discomfort during the procedure. Once the area is cleaned to ensure a sterile environment, Arthrosamid® is carefully injected into the knee’s synovial cavity. This is a precise procedure, and in some cases, ultrasound guidance may be used to ensure accurate placement of the injection.
Once injected, Arthrosamid® begins to distribute itself within the synovial fluid of the knee joint. It gradually meshes with the surrounding synovial tissue, where it helps to provide support and lubrication to the joint, aiming to alleviate symptoms such as pain and swelling.
Aftercare
After the treatment, patients may experience mild to moderate pain and / or swelling, which typically resolves within a few days. Regular follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor progress and ensure optimal outcomes.
To maximise the benefits of Arthrosamid®, patients are encouraged to do low-impact exercises to strengthen the knee. Patients are also advised to avoid high-stress activities for a few weeks after treatment.

Reproducible pain reduction Results
Results from the DAISY study, ROSA study, and IDA study show a significant, long-lasting improvement in patients’ WOMAC pain score of 9 or more, maintained up to 4 years after a single injection.
The minimum clinically important difference (MCID) represents the smallest improvement considered worthwhile by a patient.
