Christopher Channer | Total Knee Replacement

Christopher Channer

Knee Surgery

I’m back to normal again

After living with knee problems since childhood, Christopher Channer finally decided it was time to take action and see a specialist.

Christopher, 83, said: “I had a bad fall down the stairs when I was a child, around the age of 10, and my knee has never really been right since. I saw an osteopath back then, but the problem never completely went away.

“In 1989, I had an arthroscopy to remove any damaged tissue or cartilage, but over the years, it just got worse and worse. It became very stiff, and I reached the point where I knew something had to be done. A bit of arthritis had crept in too, which probably didn’t help.

"I was beginning to limp, and my knee was starting to give way. That’s what really pushed me to act. My GP referred me to The Horder Centre, where I had scans and saw Mr Lee David, A Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.

Simple Steps to Help You Prepare for Knee Replacement Surgery

Facing knee replacement surgery can feel daunting, but the right preparation can make all the difference.

In this guide, we break down exactly what you need to know before surgery day, from prepping your body and home to managing expectations and recovery tips.

"He looked at the scans and offered me a total knee replacement. I wasn't worried about the surgery. I was expecting him to say that, and it just confirmed what I already knew.

“They got me up the next day after surgery, and the physiotherapists were fantastic; they got me moving more or less straight away. I saw them a couple of times before going home, and the knee replacement information booklet they gave me was excellent. I followed all the pre-op and post-op exercises carefully, which really helped.

“Mr David was very happy with my progress during a follow-up call, and I have to say he was fantastic throughout; always helpful, and he operated on me perfectly.

“Now, I feel great. I walked eight miles the other day and didn’t feel the effects at all. I’m really back to normal again. The only thing I still need to practice is walking down steps more!

“From start to finish, I found the experience excellent. The staff, the treatment, and the follow-up were all brilliant. I honestly couldn’t find a fault and would recommend The Horder Centre to anyone.”

“It is very pleasing to hear that Reverend Channer is happy with his knee replacement and doing so well. He has obviously worked extremely hard on his rehabilitation. Receiving such positive feedback is extremely gratifying to the whole team"
